Kelowna Game Jam - Important Info

Submitted by Felix Irnich on

Heya Jammers, only a few days to go until the Kelowna Global Game Jam starts!
I've got a bunch of important info to share with you prior to the event:

What to Expect

On Friday we're going to start with a few keynote presentations before revealing this year's jam theme. Then it's time to break the ice and mingle to build your teams and start jamming on your games. You'll then be working with your team on your game for 48 hours before finally submitting it to the Global Game Jam website on Sunday evening, and getting a chance to show it off to everyone else. You don't need to be there in-person for the entirety of the event, but it is encouraged. Please try to be there for the beginning as teams will be built then, as well as for the end when everyone uploads and shares their games.

We'll also be going over a bunch of rules and information during the event, so don't worry about feeling unprepared, as everything you need to know will be communicated at the jam itself.

What to Bring

Please make sure to bring your own equipment: Laptops, power cords, monitors, notebooks, pencils, snacks, drinks, etc. Anything you need to create a game is on you and your team to bring themselves. CAT will provide power outlets, internet, desks, chairs, bathrooms, and a kitchenette with a microwave. The space will be closed from midnight - 8am, so no need to bring sleeping gear.

As with all social gatherings, please maintain personal hygiene during the jam. Neglecting to wash or put on clean clothes contributes to an unpleasant atmosphere, so please don't force our volunteers to ask you to leave and wash up. Also, please be responsible for your area during the jam and pick up after yourself. We've been very lucky that CAT has opened their space to us, and we want to make sure that they'll have us again next year.

Arrival & Parking

The jam takes place at Centre for Arts and Technology Kelowna located in the Landmark 3 tower. (1632 Dickson Ave #100, Kelowna, BC V1Y 7T2)
Arrive via Dickson Ave to reach the building's guest parking deck. There is plenty of parking available, and you can park in the area right near the main entrance. You may notice signs that guest parking has a time limit, however CAT has assured us that this is not the case during the weekend, so you'll be able to park there just fine. There will also likely be signs and posters of the game jam posted by the entrance. Once inside, look for the Buzz Lightyear statue.
