Last-minute reminders for IGDATC's Global Game Jam 2024!

Submitted by Mark LaCroix on

Global Game Jam 2024 is almost upon us. As we get ready for an exciting weekend, I wanted to share some information and reminders.

    • IGDATC is hosting a hybrid site this year. We will be in-person at Noble Robot in Minneapolis, and online via Discord.

This year, we've obtained the use of extra space in the building where Noble Robot is located, so participation is now capped at 60 attendees (vs. last year's 30). Bring a friend! 😆

All are welcome, whether you are a seasoned veteran, or someone just curious about game development, this site is for you!

We welcome all types of games (digital, hardware, tabletop), too!

      ▶️ COVID-19 policy

For the safety of our community, please review the following COVID-19 policy for this year's in-person location:

      - You must be fully vaccinated and boosted.
      - You must have a negative COVID-19 test result, taken on Friday, January 26th. You will be asked to show a photo of the test when you arrive, so remember to take a picture!
      - If you are feeling sick at any time during the weekend, you must go home immediately.
      - Because of the testing requirement, masks are not required, but if you feel more comfortable wearing a mask, please feel free to. Additional masks are available on-site.

There are no exceptions to this policy. If you are unable to provide a photo of a negative test, or you forget to take a test (it happens), there is a pharmacy right next door to Noble Robot where you can quickly obtain a home test.

If you cannot comply with this policy for any reason, you are of course welcome to jam with us online via Discord.

If you have any questions about this policy, please contact Mark LaCroix, the in-person site organizer.

      ▶️ In-person jam site

Noble Robot is a co-working office for people working in games, software, and digital art, located in the St. Anthony Falls area of Minneapolis, just across the river from downtown.

It is an open plan space that can accommodate a maximum of 30 people: 22 in the main area, and 4 in each of two conference rooms.

There will be enough power strips for everyone, but you may wish to bring your own to be safe or if you have additional devices. There will be a few extra monitors as well as a large number of Xbox One and PS4 gamepads. See an organizer on-site to check out any Noble Robot equipment.

One of the conference rooms doubles as a podcast/recording studio, and can be used to record audio for your game. See an organizer to arrange use of the recording space and equipment.

This conference room also features a TV and wide-angle webcam connected to a USB hub for Discord/Zoom meetings. It's use will be prioritized for hybrid teams.

The building also has a small amount of common space that can be used temporarily, but there will be no dedicated space for sleeping/napping.

Noble Robot will remain open until 1am on Friday and Saturday, and open again at 9am on Saturday and Sunday.

      ▶️ Parking/transit

There is free street parking within two blocks of Noble Robot, and the parking lot of the nearby Union Bank and Trust building is free on weekends.

Before you set out, please see the detailed information at:

      ▶️ Food options

There are many food options next to Noble Robot, including a full grocery store, pizza and fast casual options, and other restaurants. A near-complete list/map of nearby options can be found at: https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewer?mid=1ZDABfoew5hELIIdRvBsrKpF_QU5LUOw

There will be *limited* free snacks and drinks on-site, as well as a microwave, tea kettle, and refrigerator. Please be respectful of the space and others when bringing and your own food.

      ▶️ Online jam site

For our online site this year we'll again be on Discord, organized by our partner, Amber Waves of Games. Whether you're jamming in-person or online, join the "AWG/IGDATC GGJ 2024" Discord server: https://discord.gg/um7gwVrDKT

The opening and closing presentations will be streamed to the IGDATC YouTube channel.

      ▶️ Post-jam presentations on February 14th!

After the jam is complete, we will hold our traditional post-jam presentations during the following IGDATC Gamedev Meeting on February 14th. All teams are welcome to present a short (10-15 minute) postmortem at this meeting (either online, or in-person).
