GGJ Welcomes its New Director of Communications

The Global Game Jam® is really pleased to be able to announce that Tarja Porkka-Kontturi is joining the organization as our Director of Communications! In this new role, Tarja will be interacting frequently with our diverse, global community to better assess their needs and aspirations for the GGJ, as well as elevating their stories and successes. We also aim to increase our community’s engagement throughout the year, and not only during our primary event in January.

Based in Finland, Tarja has always had a deep passion for gaming and a strong interest in story telling combined with technology, and she studied game development to pursue that interest and delved deeper in the process of creating new worlds and stories. She entered the game industry as a journalist, helping with various efforts such as the Nordic Game conference's digital edition and doing games and toys marketing at PR Nordic. She is also a veteran participant of the Global Game Jam!

“We’re beyond thrilled to welcome Tarja onto the GGJ staff, her experience and insights in various gaming communities will be invaluable in helping the GGJ better communicate not only within its community but also elevating the voices, stories, and legacy of our community to the industry and beyond,” stated Kate Edwards, GGJ Executive Director. In Tarja’s own words, “I've taken part in many game jams and I truly love the enthusiastic network of like-minded people. I want to support everyone finding their place within the community and spread the great word of game development life!"

Please join the GGJ in welcoming Tarja!
