Global Game Jam® (GGJ) is excited to announce that GGJ NEXT® is moving to January of 2023 to be held in parallel with the main Global Game Jam event.
GGJ NEXT is our game creation event focused on young creators from the ages of 12-17 that is typically held in late July/early August. Moving this event to align with our main Global Game Jam event is in keeping with our mission to empower and unite people through the creative and colaborative process of game development
This will be a permanent move for GGJ NEXT and will enable us to serve more young people who are interested in learning about and participating in the creation of video games by leveraging our existing network of experienced and dedicated GGJ organizers.
Similar to the primary Global Game Jam event held annually in January, GGJ NEXT is designed to stimulate collaboration and teamwork; it is not a competition. Due to the similarity of events, we feel it is natural to combine them and bring all game makers in our community together. GGJ NEXT is an event for future game developers and they can benefit greatly from the guidance, mentoring and advice of those who’re already in the journey.
GGJ NEXT supports educators and jam organizers with effective and engaging curriculum videos to teach basic concepts in game development and provide lesson plans and projects to take into the classroom and to students. Materials are available on GGJ NEXT website all year around - You are welcome to check them out and prepare for next year's jam!
Site organizers will be able to choose to host GGJ Next sites when they register on globalgamejam.org for 2023. GGJ will provide all of the materials you need to be onboarded and host a great event.
