Omaha GGJ 2024

    • GGJ Omaha is brought to you by Insert Game [Here], the Omaha Game Developer's Association, and the University of Nebraska at Omaha's Creative Production Lab. The addition of online support means anyone from anywhere can participate alongside local devs, the UNO community, alumni, and friends from afar.

No game dev/jam experience necessary! Designers, developers, artists, musicians, knitters, gardeners, architects, everyone and anyone is welcome to try their hand at making a game during the GGJ. If you want to make a new game within or using the tools of an existing game you can and should! Not sold on being a full on-dev yet? You can learn many new skills and support your team by contributing ideas, playtesting, and giving moral support.

As noted on the site, and an update from prior years: Omaha GGJ is an 19+ event. Either you are an active UNO student, legal adult in the eyes of Nebraska, or are participating entirely online to meet both GGJ's rules, and UNO's event requirements. We ask folks to be considerate of others in the space and the kids themselves by not bringing young children for the duration of the event. We are open to families and friends on Sunday from 3 to 5pm so everyone can play all the finished games.

Site Organizers will be helping folks gather into teams during brainstorming on discord, and into Saturday morning in-person. Everyone is welcome and should feel welcome regardless of experience or expertise. If you want to make a version of patty-cake about gardening: DO IT. We're here to help.

Site Organizers will be operating as conflict resolution contacts and ombudsman should any issue arise. We'll even be making sure you take breaks and make realistic scope decisions so your game is done and playable on Sunday. GGJ and Omaha Game Dev Association is all about seeing this community grow! Double check GGJ code of conduct and you'll be kosher.

When the theme goes public on January 20th, folks are free to start working. The discord server will be our primary coordination and workspace until the weekend in-person segment.

Every board game that completes a viable print-and-play version or a complete box-set will have their creation printed in the CPL and added to the Criss Library Board Game Collection for patron checkout. Any video game made to the specifications of our arcade machine will get added to public play rotation.

Members of the UNO community are welcome to come into the CPL and utilize any computers or equipment on hand for development, including our Board Game Kit Bash Case. This rolling cart unit includes a plethora of supplies for getting your board game started and playable.

Everyone will stay in touch on discord throughout the dev time, and for the final Sunday, we will present completed games in person and live via discord.
