Welcome to GGJ Philly 2023!
Global Game Jawn 2023 is a 48 hour jam that'll be hosted without pause starting Friday, Feb 3 at 7pm all the way through Sunday, Feb 5 at 7pm. The final location will be finalized by Tuesday, Jan 31.
Location
Global Game Jawn 2023 will be held at 1901b Washington Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19146. Street parking is rather limited, so it is suggested to catch the 64 bus to Washington Ave & 19th St which most of you will be able to catch from Washington Ave & Broad St.
Format
When you arrive at the final location we will gather in a central lobby and kick off the GGJ with the GGJ kick-off video that will reveal the theme. Afterward we will do a team building activity to brainstorm ideas and get people together! After teams are established, workstations can be established and the creation can officially begin!
Team Building
In-Person Jammers
The GGJ Team Building Activity will execute with a 4-step process:
1. Split jammers in groups by their disciplines.
2. Brainstorm game ideas in those groups
3. Reconvene to categorize ideas
4. Break into teams based on brainstormed ideas
Remote Jammers
The kick-off video will be streamed through our discord here: https://discord.gg/x8A8mkdt
We will meet in the Chat n' Chew voice chat at 6:30pm where you will be able to watch the kick off video. Remote jammers will start their brainstorming process 30 minutes before in-person jammers, so their will be two separate brainstorming processes.
This year we are encouraging that remote teams and in-person teams stay separate for simplicity!
Team building for remote teams will be cordinated separately from in-person jammers, as remote devs will execture the team-building activity using Miroboard as a brainstorming medium.
The remote team-building activity will be executed as follows:
1. All remote jammers will use a group Miroboard to come up with game ideas for 15 minutes.
2. The jam coordinator will categorize similar game ideas for 5 minutes.
3. Jammers will separate into teams based on game idea categories.
Once remote teams have been established, your jam coordinator will set up Discord channels per team/idea category.
COVID
This jam is following CDC’s suggestions as they pertain to the current state of the virus in PA. As per the COVID-19 Community Level tool provided by the CDC(https://www.health.pa.gov/topics/disease/coronavirus/Pages/Coronavirus.aspx), PA’s community level is Medium and they suggest that people choose whether or not they wear a mask while indoors in public based on whether or not they are at “high risk of getting very sick” from contracting COVID.
