Welcome to The 'Foundry' @UWEGames Jam @UWEBristol!
Historically one of the biggest and best FREE jam sites in the UK.
This year we are a Hybrid site, meaning the opening, social and closing events are in person on our Frenchay Campus. However there is a Jam Discord for teams to jam remotely.
Coronavirus Guidance
Despite the change in government advice we still want to encourage the use of masks when in contact with large groups of people. Please bring your own mask or use those provided in the event spaces.
We also ask that you complete a Lateral Flow Test before attending the event. You can read the UWE Guidance on Event Safety for further information.
Location / Parking
UWE Bristol Frenchay Campus:
- opening and closing events : 2D067 Lecture Theatre
- social and jam areas: The Foundry (1F007) and The Works (2FD008)
By bus: Walk up the short, steep path into UWE, in the middle of the bus rank. Walk through 3 sets of double doors and go up the stairs between the Foundry + Barbershop to the Works on arrival.
By car: Pickup and drop-off are possible in a dedicated bay, just after the main bus rank, but parking is possible in the UWE ECC, just a short walk away. If you have the hardware, we suggest using the drop off, as Foundry / Works is only 100M from the bus rank.
Use the UWE Internal Navigation website to help with room and route finding on Frenchay Campus.

Hardware & Software
Most people prefer to BYOD (bring your own device), laptop or even desktop, but we also have some guest accounts so visitors will be able to use the 30 machines in the Works (Unity, .net, Adobe etc.)
If you want something to plug in to, rather than haul a monitor in, we also have (SOME) large displays & projectors for use.
NB: There may be high demand for these items, so if you need something specific give Andy an email and he can advise as to available resources.
Food & Drink
As this is a FREE event, we try to provide a huge delivery of Pizza on Saturday night, but we will also provide drinking fountains and plenty of fresh fruit to compensate for this!
There is a range of shops, cafes and the student union on-site (incl. Starbucks, Costa and Subway), with major supermarkets and retail parks with fast food (and healthy alternatives) within walking distance.
Research
There has been research taking place into the GGJ over the past two years. There is not any research scheduled for this jam, but see below notice about the use of video and social media.
Video / Twitter
Sometimes we make a short video of the event or record the final demos. If you do not wish to be in this, you can let an organiser or film crew know at any time.
We also tweet about the awesome stuff you've made!
R&R
It's healthy to take breaks. We reserve a couple of rooms for chilling out or even a quick sleep, so bring a pillow or something if you are not heading home for the night! Please also bring additional clothes in case you get cold... It is January in the UK after all...
