Mecha Mayhem
[Global Game Jam 2020]
Mecha Mayhem is a deckbuilding skirmish minis game. The goal of the game is to repair your dilapidated Mech and then use it to destroy the other players’ Mech.
Each player will start the game with identical starting decks consisting of:
4 Energy
3 Repair
1 Basic Move
1 Basic Attack
1 Basic Defense
Players will shuffle their decks and deal themselves 5 cards (leaving 5 cards in their deck).
Shuffle the Workshop Deck. From this deck, deal 6 cards to the center row.
When your personal deck runs out, just reshuffle your discard to form your new deck.
If the Workshop Deck runs out, reshuffle its discard pile to form the new center deck.
Setup the Hex Battlefield according to the scenario being played.
Place player mechs in their starting positions
Turn Breakdown
In order to play cards from your hand, you must first pay that cards cost in ENERGY.
ENERGY will come from either ENERGY cards, card effects or any other card can be discarded for an ENERGY.
Players can also purchase cards from the center row by paying their cost in ENERGY. Card purchased this way go to that players discard pile.
Equipment and Upgrade cards are played in the players Mech Tableau and will stay out until destroyed.
Attacks and Maneuvers get discarded immediately upon use. At the end of players turn they will draw back up to a full hand of 5.
When a players Mech takes damage, that player will collect Damage Cards. These cards are not discarded at the end of the turn. If your hand consists entirely of Damage cards, you lose.
Skirmish
The mech on the skirmish map (hex field). Moves and Attacks with cards in the player's hand.
Some Maneuvers will grant the player extra movement or attacks.
Defense Cards and Defensive Maneuvers will negate incoming damage and can be played/activated in reaction to another player’s attack.
Damage taken from skirmish attacks are accumulated in the players discard pile and only Repair Cards can remove Damage Cards from the Players Hand. If the player’s entire hand gets full of Damage Cards, they are out of the match.

Mech Tableau is a blueprint for building your mech
The Mech has slots for
1 Head
1 Torso
2 Arms
1 Legs
Players can also choose to exhaust parts in the Mech Tableau to soak incoming damage.
Cards in the player’s Mech Tableau can be exhausted for extra benefits.
If damage exceeds the parts Armor Value, that part is damaged and placed in the players discard pile.
