The American University Game Lab brings you Global Game Jam 2017's Washington, DC site at American University! The annual event encourages participants to challenge themselves and push their creativity and learning to the limit. Teams will be tasked with designing and creating digital and non-digital games over the course of one weekend.

The entry fee is $25 and can be paid at the site's EventBrite Page

Participants, ranging from amateurs to industry professionals, gather at each site location to create, collaborate and present innovative new games to the global community. The Global Game Jam will be held January 20-22, 2017 at American University's McKinley building.  

Make games with local and upcoming developers! This event will bring professionals anCd students together to create interactive, innovative media projects. Game Jam teams at the American University site will have access to unique amenities provided by American University, including on-site meals. Jammers can also engage the AU community to playtest their games. The American University Global Game Jam site is a great place to learn, create and network with DC's interactive media, software development and visual design communities!

Jam Schedule

Day 1 - Intro

5:00 - 6: Pre-jam workshop and sign-in (McKinley 101)

  • Game Jam 101 presented by Matthew Mauriello - join us for a pre-jam workshop introducing the game jam process and providing practical instruction in Paper prototyping & sketching, Sticky noting, Elevator pitching, Scope and Iteration, game feel or "Juiciness". Work with experienced game jam mentors whether you are a first timer or you would like to hone your brainstorming and prototyping skills!

Attendance is not required at the workshop to sign in. 

6:30 pm: Announcements and Keynote (McKinley 101)  

7:00 - 7:15 pm: Brainstorming

7:15 - 8:00 pm: Team forming activity and move to jam-space (Jam spaces revealed during opening events)

8:00 - ?: JAM! 

Day 2 - Jam 

11:00 am - Deadline to create user profile and game pages

6:00 pm - Check-in and open playtesting time

Day 3 - Outro

1:00 pm - Deadline to upload games to GGJ Server 

2:00 pm - Cleanup time - pack up shop and clean your area

3:00 - 5:00 pm: Presentations (McKinley 101) 

5:00 - 7:00 pm: Open game playing time (McKinley 101)
