The American University Game Lab and the International Game Developers Association (IGDA) DC Chapter brings you Global Game Jam 2015's MAGFest - Washington, DC site!
Game Jam teams at the MAGFest - Washington, DC site will have access to unique ammenities provided by MAGFest, including access to musicians and voice talent for their games, in addition to organized playtesting times with attendees.
Day 1 - Intro
3:30 - 8:00 pm: Check In
4:00 - 5:30 pm: Pre-Jam Power Panel (in MAGES room 1) - come see veteran game developers talk about game dev best practices, cautionary tales, and other things to get you motivated to jam! Guests are composer Alexander Brandon, game designer James Portnow, writer Anna Megill, and indie developer and GGJ board member Lindsay Grace.
5:30 - 6:00 pm: Break
6:00 - 6:30 pm: Announcements and Keynote
6:30 - 7:00 pm: Reveal of Theme and Brainstorming
7:00 - 7:30 pm: Team forming activity and move to jam-space
8:00 - ?: JAM!
Day 2 - Jam
11:00 am - Deadline to create user profile and game pages
Visit from MAGFest musicians
3:00 pm - Mid-Jam check-in - show us and MAGFest attendees what you've made so far!
6:00 pm - Open playtesting time
Day 3 - Outro
1:00 pm - Deadline to upload games to GGJ Server
2:00 pm - Cleanup time - pack up shop and clean your area
3:00 - 5:00 pm: Presentations and Awards (Jam space)
5:00 - 7:00 pm: Open game playing time (Jam space)
Teams may also display their games after the Jam during MAGFest's Monday events.
•Jam Master - Using a sound asset by one of the musicians or artists that have provided content
•AAAAAUUUUUUUGGGGGHHHH! - Incorporating the Colossus yell into your game
•Ready Player One - Making your game either 80's themed or have it take place inside a computer (to go with the Tron theme)
•By MAGland for MAGland - Making a game specifically designed to be played at MAGFest
•Creative Cosplay - Incorporate an element of a creative cosplayer's costume into your game. We're not just talking about someone dressed as a game character - look for epic crossovers, meta-aware outfits, or even someone dressing as MAGFest itself!
•Lumber Jack Award- Integrate lumberjacks into the game. MAGFest calls the people who have been to every MAGFest "Lumberjacks".
•Astronomer Award- integrate astronomers into the game. Astronomers are people born near MAGFest and have gone to all of them.
This event is organized in cooperation with the Music and Gaming Festival (MAGFest) a Washington, DC-area game culture event held yearly at the Gaylord National Hotel in National Harbor, MD.
MAGFest is organized by MAGFest, Inc., a non-profit organization dedicated to furthering the appreciation of games and video game music.
