Looking for a new year resolution? Resolute to jam! :D
Global Game Jam time is upon us soon on the 23rd of January, registration starts at 3pm at Microsoft in Sandyford
What is Global Game Jam
The Global Game Jam (GGJ) is the world's largest game jam event taking place around the world at physical locations. Think of it as a hackathon focused on game development. It is the growth of an idea that in todays heavily connected world, we could come together, be creative, share experiences and express ourselves in a multitude of ways using video games – it is very universal. The weekend stirs a global creative buzz in games, while at the same time exploring the process of development, be it programming, iterative design, narrative exploration or artistic expression. It is all condensed into a 48 hour development cycle. The GGJ encourages people with all kinds of backgrounds to participate and contribute to this global spread of game development and creativity
1) What are the host site opening times?
The Microsoft building will be open from
Friday: 3pm to 10pm
Saturday: 8am to all night
Sunday: Saturday to 5pm
2) Why do I have to pay in?
We are charging an entry fee to make sure that we can provide some food and give aways at the event. The Global Game Jam is run by volunteers and we love to give you everything you need over the 48 hours for free, but that is very difficult to organize.
3) OK, what does my entry get me?
All entrants will get a Global Game Jam t-shirts as well as we will provide some of your meals over the Jam.
We have also secured a workshop from Fungus Games on their Unity3D plugin.
Great news IGM are providing a digital subscription to any jammer that submits a game at the event. (Here for details: http://indiegamemag.com/igm-sponsors-select-global-game-jam-locations-re...)
4) What do I need to bring?
All entrants should have their own computer to allow them to work in there team. We are providing the venue and sustenance (some of it anyway) you need to bring the hardware.
5) I only have a desktop, can I bring that?
Yes, we will have large working desks so space will not be an issue. We are also in the final stages of getting secure lockup for the nights so you do not need to bring your machine in an out several times (unless you want to!)
6) I have never made a game, can I take part?
Absolutely, the whole idea behind the Global Game Jam is to meet new people, learn new skills and build something cool in 48 hours.
