Contention

Contention is a party game, based on an abstraction of the classic idea of a global superpower standoff. Players form teams representing superpower countries, which vie for supremacy through intricate political maneuvering and clever trade agreements. The game is played in turns, each representing a unit of time during which the countries must decide how to deal with the various key events that occur. Based on how they respond to events, and on how they interact with each other, the countries are rewarded or penalized assets or asset-earning power. Over time, alliances and vendettas form, and countries gain supremacy in economic sectors, or are crushed. Eventually, one country assumes global dominance, emerging victorious and winning the game.
