Web Cam/ ustream.tv
To add to the Game Jam experience, we like as many sites as possible to setup video streams, so we can see each other live. Here are a few easy steps to setting up video streaming for your Jam sites.
All you need is:
- A web cam
- A computer you can plug it into (can be doing other stuff)
That's it! A microphone would be nice but it's not necessary. Here's what to do.
- Create yourself an account at USTREAM.TV
- Set up your own show (it can be tricky working out all the details with your camera) but at the end, you will get a ustream.tv URL where your show can be watched. It would be either live or off-air. This is an example of an off-air one for Santa Cruz Game Jam with pictures from 2009: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/global-game-jam-santa-cruz
- You can now copy the embed code from your stream (or any stream, really). Be sure to copy just the first one, the "Live Show" embed code, not the "media stream" or "social stream" or "chat".
- Copy the embed code into the Video Stream box in your Jam Site page on this website. You need to be the site's organizer to edit that page. Copy only the "<object> .... </object>" tag. There's an annoying anchor tag at the end of the code which is just advertisement for UStream. Leave that part off.
- Important: Do not copy the code into any other field, and don't add any other text beside the object code into the video stream box. Save the page after you are done.
- Now the video should be visible toward the bottom of your Jam Site page (before the notes box), like this: http://globalgamejam.org/sites/university-california-santa-cruz
- You should be able to also view it on this page: http://globalgamejam.org/streams . If you can see it here, you have done it correctly.
