After a bit of a break, we’re back for 2016 and we want to share the global experience of GGJ with all of our participants. Earlier this year we announced that, thanks to GDC and UBM, the GGJ GDC Scholarship program would be available once again.
The response to the program has been overwhelming and the calibre of the candidates is a tribute to the talent and diversity of the GGJ community.
GGJ coordinators from eighteen countries have been contacted, offering them an All Access GDC pass for the conference to be held in San Francisco, USA in March next year.
The final GDC Scholarship recipients will not be confirmed until January, as its dependent on recipients confirming visa and travel arrangements. Should any recipients be unable to attend, another applicant will be contacted and offered their pass.

We are super excited to announce that Global Game Jam® will be partnering with Twitch this year! As well as being silver sponsors, Twitch and GGJ have teamed up to offer us the ability to link the broadcasts of all our sites in one place.
We will be broadcasting from our very own GlobalGameJam channel for the whole event! We are currently on the lookout for Twitch broadcasting enthusiasts from around the world to help us present on our channel and make it a success. If you have had previous Twitch experience, or any media training - please get in touch.
As we gear up for another year of Global Game Jam®, at the time of writing we have 295 sites in 60 countries already registered to be part of what looks to be another record-breaking GGJ!
If there's no site near you, it's not too late to volunteer as a Site Organiser and apply to run a site in your home town. This interactive map shows you exactly what's happening where, and will be added to as more sites are approved.

Attention, this Houdini Indie license offer will expire on Wednesday, January 27th. If you'd like to use Houdini for the Global Game Jam, please follow the instructions below before the 27th. (Also, make sure you have all your game dev tools installed and ready to go BEFORE the game jam starts. Time is precious!).
To get you up to speed on the Houdini you can get your license sorted before #GGJ16. If you would like to make the most of this opportunity email "indielicense[at]sidefx[dot]com" and use the subject "Houdini Indie for Global Game Jam". In order to issue the license SideFX will need need your name and email address, so please include that info in the license request email.
Please note the three month period starts from when your request is processed, *not* from when you download the software.

A lot of people do amazing things to allow the Global Game Jam® to happen across over 500 sites in almost 80 countries. This year’s Executive Committee is keen to include even more countries and cultures and themselves are based in four continents across 7 time zones.

Giselle has been involved with GGJ since 2011 and has held positions as a Regional Organiser, an Executive Committee Member and a Board member, as well as running a large site in Melbourne, Australia for more than 200 jammers. For Giselle, GGJ is all about inclusivity, creativity and community.

We had another record-breaking year at Global Game Jam. 28,837 people registered for 518 jam sites in 78 countries and 5438 games were produced. We estimate actual in-person participation to be about 21,000 people, based on registered team members and known number of organizers.
We have had substantial increase in numbers every year. While we don't think this trend will necessarily continue for another seven years, we do recognize there are many more talented young game developers who could participate world wide. 78 countries is only about one third of the world.
Nothing could have been done without the active participation of many volunteers at multiple levels, chief among them the GGJ executive producer Ciro Durán whose team did a spectacular job of producing the event. Hundreds of people from sponsors to site organizers and their staffs had a part in this. Please see our credits page for more.
