For those jammers looking to level up or jam on hardcore we have our GGJ16 Diversifiers!
Whether you're looking to add to your personal challenges for Global Game Jam®, or find something to help your game stand out from the crowd, diversifiers are here to help. The diversifiers are a free-for-all voluntary list of secondary constraints, that the individual teams can choose to go for, or not, as they please.
We are getting diversifiers translated into as many languages as possible and will be distributing translations via Site Organisers.
The diversifiers for 2016 are:
Comic book colours
Your game uses only 4 colours, with an emphasis on contrast - Accessibility, Art, Design, Pervasive
LEGO Got It Right
There are no spoken or written words in this game. This is even true in the instructions - Pervasive, Accessibility
Hello Global Game Jam® Hosts!
It’s less than four weeks until Global Game Jam® 2016 begins, and we’re super excited. We’ve been working with our silver sponsors Twitch to broadcast from our very own Global Game Jam® channel for the whole event - and GGJ sites around the world will be broadcasting through the Global Game Jam® directory so you can always see what other jammers are up to!
We're pleased to announce our two sensational keynote speakers for Global Game Jam® 2016; Siobhan Reddy and Ramez Naam!
Siobhan Reddy; Studio Director, Media Molecule
Siobhan runs Media Molecule, the UK company responsible for the creation of Little Big Planet and Tearaway. They are currently building the next generation of Play, Create and Share for PlayStation 4: Dreams. Rapid prototyping is central to the Media Molecule development style. The playful and collaborative approach Siobhan and Media Molecule embrace is a perfect match for the Global Game Jam® ethos of Innovation, Collaboration and Experimentation.
Ramez Naam; Author of The Infinite Resource, Nexus, Crux, and More Than Human
After a bit of a break, we’re back for 2016 and we want to share the global experience of GGJ with all of our participants. We are looking for volunteers interested in hosting their own show during the jam. What kind of volunteers? What kind of shows? Radio what now? Earlier this year we announced that, thanks to GDC and UBM, the GGJ GDC Scholarship program would be available once again.
The response to the program has been overwhelming and the calibre of the candidates is a tribute to the talent and diversity of the GGJ community.
GGJ coordinators from eighteen countries have been contacted, offering them an All Access GDC pass for the conference to be held in San Francisco, USA in March next year.
The final GDC Scholarship recipients will not be confirmed until January, as its dependent on recipients confirming visa and travel arrangements. Should any recipients be unable to attend, another applicant will be contacted and offered their pass.
Currently the following countries will be representing Global Game Jam at the 2016 Game Developers' Conference:
We are super excited to announce that Global Game Jam® will be partnering with Twitch this year! As well as being silver sponsors, Twitch and GGJ have teamed up to offer us the ability to link the broadcasts of all our sites in one place.
We will be broadcasting from our very own GlobalGameJam channel for the whole event! We are currently on the lookout for Twitch broadcasting enthusiasts from around the world to help us present on our channel and make it a success. If you have had previous Twitch experience, or any media training - please get in touch.
As we gear up for another year of Global Game Jam®, at the time of writing we have 295 sites in 60 countries already registered to be part of what looks to be another record-breaking GGJ!
If there's no site near you, it's not too late to volunteer as a Site Organiser and apply to run a site in your home town. This interactive map shows you exactly what's happening where, and will be added to as more sites are approved.
What everyone is wondering is - just how many pizzas will we consume during #GGJ16?
