Casual Connect HamburgCasual Connect Hamburg

I’m proud that Gamesauce is an official sponsor of the Global Game Jam with one very important goal: to give all of you participants a chance to continue the project you’ve created during those 48 hours of jamming during the Global Game Jam 2011. We have an exciting opportunity planned for you, please read on to find out more!

Gamesauce will be sponsoring qualifying Global Game Jam 2011 participants to get free entry to two different tracks during Casual Connect Europe, which is held in Hamburg, Germany on February 8, 9 and 10. The tracks included are Games for Gamers on the second day and Game Development and Production on the third day of the conference.

In order to qualify, you will need to have worked on a game project during this year’s Jam and pre-register yourself before February 3rd at the special Gamesauce registration page. You can find more info on the conference on the Casual Connect Europe website.

GGJ 2011 participants also receive an on-site €50 discount on an all-access main conference pass for Casual Connect Europe that grants you a full 3-day access to both the conference and all the parties. All you have to do is show your Global Game Jam game or proof or registration for the Global Game Jam 2011 at the registration desk after 9:30 on February 8th.

But that’s not all! We’re also going to let the all the international jam sites to nominate their most commercially viable and promising projects. We will then pick 10 lucky teams that will be allowed to have two of their team members both receive an all-access badge to the Casual Connect conference worth 350 euros and a free three night stay during the conference at the Meininger Hamburg City Center close to the conference venue (see details below).

These 10 teams will also be allowed to present their projects on the final day of the conference and personally pitch them to the game publishers that are present at the conference.

The winners will be picked in the three days following the Global Game Jam 2011 and will be contacted personally to be helped with planning their trip to Hamburg*.

Getting to and staying in Hamburg

The closest hostel for Casual Connect is the Meininger Center and is located 3.6 kilometers away from the Congress Center Hamburg. The best (and cheapest) way to get there is with the S-11 or S-31 train. For more travel instructions, have a look on the Casual Connect website.

If everyone ends up filling the Meiniger Center to its walls, other low-budget accomodations can also be found at HostelBookers.com or Zimmer Frei Hamburg. For people who want a bit more luxury, you can always look on Casual Connect’s page on accomodations.

Who’s behind all of this?

Vlad MicuVlad Micu

Glad you asked! My name is Vlad Micu and I’m the European editor of Gamesauce and also manage the Gamesauce.org website. I am also organizing this special opportunity in collaboration with the nice people from the Global Game Jam and Casual Connect.

This is also going to be my third GGJ in a row and I would personally like to encourage each and everyone of you to consider continuing your project if you and your team see a potential. My team’s project from back in 2009, Pulse, was picked up by a local publisher and turned into a full-fledged iPhone game with a soundtrack by famous DJ Ferry Korsten. With the right team, timing and effort, this could happen to you!

Best regards,

Vlad Micu

About Gamesauce

Gamesauce is an international trade magazine and online portal for game professionals. We are all about putting the people of our industry out front. We leave the business talk, sales numbers and analytics to others. We want to be the voice of the coder, the developer, the marketer, the all-nighter-pulling crunch-guy. We want to help others get to know you–what drives you, what makes you successful at your job, what (besides caffeine) keeps you going hour after hour, year after year.
Most important of all, we want to tell your story. We want to hear your anecdotes and wisdom, your lessons learned and secret tricks, and we want to share those tales with others. What’s your story? Share it through Gamesauce.

*in the case that a winning team is prohibited from going (be that by not having the money to travel to Hamburg or any other inability to come), a runner-up team will be invited to take their place.
